We help employees and families abroad successfully adapt to life at work, at home, and in daily life through practical, learner-friendly cultural training in more than 150 countries.
For 30 years, building on the legacy of Dean Foster and DFA Intercultural Global Solutions, we have delivered customized and expert intercultural training and support. Through insightful cultural self-assessment tools, one-on-one training, and practical cultural guides, we answer questions, address concerns, and provide assignees with the cross-cultural skills for a successful adjustment to home and work-life culture.
Cultural Agility… a fundamental requirement for mobility success.
Guntram is moving from Germany to China and though he is excited, he is nervous about the challenges he will encounter in a culture he thinks is so different from his own. Lucky for Guntram, his employer has authorized intercultural training as part of his mobility support services. His certified Intercultural Trainer leads him through his customized program, and he’s soon learning how to understand the culture he is about to join, from the perspective of his home culture. It turns out there is a lot in common between these two cultures separated by half the globe, and Guntram now has the skills to succeed in both.
Intercultural training and skill building are a company’s best hedge against risk on global assignments.
All businesses are connected in a global marketplace, and global mobility encourages the growth of global business relationships. The assignee sent to build a business, train a sales team, or implement a new technology, has a much greater chance of success if he or she has knowledge about the culture of their destination location. Every assignee needs help finding a place to live, getting their visa squared away, and more than ever, with understanding and quickly and nimbly adapting to the local culture. Intercultural training is the key to unlocking the power of global teams and mobility.
The pace of business demands a faster pace of learning... we’re ready for it.
Our training includes powerful tools like the CultureCompass®, which helps individuals understand their cultural background in comparison with the cultural norms of the destination location. CultureCloud® is our online self-paced program, supplemented with a local culture guide and access to online training sessions. Whether a classic, in-person training, or distance learning through video conferencing and online tools, we prepare assignees for success in their new cultures.

- Where does classic training take place?
- Training can be delivered before departure from the home country or post-arrival in the host country at home or at work. Typically, classic training is most beneficial when it occurs 1-2 months after arrival, after gaining experiences in a new culture, and having questions to ask!
- What topics will be discussed?
- Training, information, and skill building focus on ‘living in’ and ‘working ‘in’ the host culture. Topics include stages of adjustment, culture shock, daily life, customs, social protocol, holidays, country background and values. Other topics explore aspects of work life including leadership, meetings, negotiations, projects, teams, relationship-building, virtual communications, and business etiquette.
