WERC Global 2025: Dwellworks Key Insights on the Future of Limitless Mobility

Dwellworks

We’re back from Global 2025, the global mobility industry’s largest annual conference. This year’s event in Salt Lake City in late October attracted 1500 participants, including nearly 300 corporate employers.

Limitless Mobility

The Dwellworks team was there in force to listen to our clients, participate in and lead sessions, and gauge the future state of global mobility. The ‘Limitless’ theme of the conference was made real by the inspirational address from Amy Purdy and the leadership keynote session hosted by WERC President and CEO Anupam Singhal, as well as in nearly 50 educational sessions and workshops.

Here’s what we learned and shared about the current state of global mobility and the opportunities ahead.

  • There are about 300,000 corporate sponsored moves to and within the US each year
  • An estimated 1 million more moves are not formally supported by global mobility programs
  • More employees than ever are mobile but not moving, for projects, travel, training, and more
  • The benefit needs of mobile employees and their employers are evolving rapidly
  • The opportunities to provide support in new ways, including through new technologies, will drive the next stage of policy and services in global corporate mobility

The bridge from the current to the future state of the global mobility industry was explored in detail by the opening remarks of WERC President and CEO Anupam Singhal, who was joined on stage by James Conigliaro, President and CEO of Dwellworks, Carlyn Taylor, CEO of SIRVA, Tyler Reynolds, CEO of Equus Software, Nidia Knight, CHRO of SOS International, and Jason Munoz, Director Talent Acquisition at Entergy.

New Solutions for a New Era of Talent Mobility

Drawing on initial data from the industry’s first comprehensive Market Sizing and Economic Study, sponsored by Dwellworks Living and other industry leaders, Anupam Singhal confirmed what global practitioners are already experiencing: that ‘traditional’ mobility assignments focused on relocating talent from one location to another to accomplish a specific business purpose is no longer the only type of mobility happening. Point-to-point assignments of a fixed duration, supported by policies and practices typically tied both to job titles and cost controls, no longer meet the more dynamic talent needs of today’s organizations and talent. The evolving global mobility environment is one of flexible policies and benefits that more closely align with employee needs and expectations, with the goal of getting the right talent to the right place at the right time, to contribute to the company’s value in a variety of ways.

“New mobility” includes shorter assignments, extended business travel, project work, remote assignments (employees working for teams other than in the employee’s home country/location), two-way transfers, and employee-initiated requests for assignments. Benefits for employees range from ‘wraparound support’ to cash benefits and employee-managed moves. Fueling this change, in addition to growth priorities and competitive strategies, is the emerging use of AI and analysis to assist in talent recruitment and selection, as well as providing prompt-driven answers to employee questions about their benefits, destination, and logistical details.

Dwellworks Shares Its Approach to Solutions Innovation

A new world of mobility also changes the game for the extensive supply chain and infrastructure that has been built to support tens of thousands of relocations and assignments on a global scale. As James Conigliaro, Dwellworks CEO and President, commented, the future will belong to service providers who have invested in operational excellence, reducing their cost of service by leveraging machine learning and AI. Automation of repetitive tasks means more time for value-added customization and personalization, instead of incrementally adjusting (and adding cost to) core processes.

At the same time, Conigliaro noted, final mile expertise is essential. Information about rental listings, local administrative services like social security hours of operation, and school enrollment capacity changes too quickly to be captured in AI updates. Connecting with an informed local resource, with the time and expertise to answer an employee’s questions, is one of the core support services that employees have requested and valued in survey after survey.

From Now to Next

As always, the annual WERC conference provided an opportunity to table set and explore new options in mobility services. Core sessions on always-essential tax and immigration updates were supplemented by knowledge of emerging developments in temporary living, options like co-living and expanding accommodations choices, as well as a future leaders bootcamp that drew a packed room of founders and innovators. The industry’s new focus on WERCshops – short, intense learning sessions planned for multiple sites in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific for 2026 – is an example of the kind of real-time learning and solutions development that WERC is advocating for for its global membership.
