Living in Luxembourg: What our Consultants Want You to Know
In preparation for a move to Luxembourg, here are some important things to know:
New Rental Laws: A new set of rental laws took effect in Luxembourg in August 2024. The laws clarify that a landlord and tenant must split real estate agency fees and confirm a maximum two-months’ deposit for new lease agreements as well as establish new policies for refunding deposits and keeping in place current annual limits on rental increases. Our Destination Consultants are your employees’ best resource for understanding these updates and their implications for rental home search and contracts in Luxembourg.
Schooling: Luxembourg has both public (state) school and private school options, including multiple international schools. Typically, when children in Luxembourg’s public schools are first taught to read and write, instruction is in German, and German is the main language of instruction throughout a public-school student’s academic career. Luxembourgish, French, and English are incorporated into the curriculum in secondary school. The language of instruction will vary at international schools. Employees moving to Luxembourg will be briefed by their Dwellworks Consultant on school options and availability. Applying for schooling as soon as a rental home is secured is crucial. An in-country address is needed to enroll.
General Culture: Luxembourg’s reputation of social stability is well-earned. It’s also a very safe country and one served by excellent public transportation that includes trains, buses, trams, and even the funicular railway.
